We have created a moodboard to determine the feel of the video we are going to produce. This would help in the cinematography as well.
![]() After a discussion with my group mates, we have decided to choose Substance Abuse as our topic. What is Substance Abuse? Substance abuse can simply be defined as a pattern of harmful use of any substance for mood-altering purposes. Medline's medical encyclopedia defines drug abuse as "the use of illicit drugs or the abuse of prescription or over-the-counter drugs for purposes other than those for which they are indicated or in a manner or in quantities other than directed." But the broad range of substance abuse in today's society is not that simple. There are substances that can be abused for their mood-altering effects that are not drugs at all -- inhalants and solvents -- and there are drugs that can be abused that have no mood-altering or intoxication properties, such as anabolic steroids. Generally, when most people talk about substance abuse, they are referring to the use of illegal drugs. Most professionals in the field of drug abuse prevention argue that any use of illegal drugs is by definition abuse. Those drugs got to be illegal in the first place because they are potentially addictive or can cause severe negative health effects; therefore, any use of illegal substances is dangerous and abusive. ![]() Drug Abuse Drugs have been part of our culture since the middle of the last century. Popularized in the 1960s by music and mass media, they have invaded all aspects of the society. An estimated 208 million people have consumed illegal drugs worldwide. The most commonly used illegal drug is marijuana. According to the United Nations 2008 World Drug report, about 3.9% of the world’s population between the ages of 15 and 64 have abused marijuana. ![]() Sexual Harassment Sexual harassment is one of the most common forms of violence against women. Sexual harassment is defined as receiving any unwanted conduct of a sexual nature including sexual comments, fondling, lewd gestures, jokes, emails, smses, pornographic pictures, coercion and more. Women are sexually harassed habitually in public and especially at the workplace. In the workplace, sexual harassment is seldom recognised or linked to the broader issue of violence against women and discrimination. ![]() Gender Inequality There is now more inequality between men and women in Malaysia after the country dropped 29 spots in the Global Gender Gap Index from 72 to 101 in just three years. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) resident representative for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Kamal Malhotra said this was due to the lack of female involvement in politics, with only 10.8% of those elected to Parliament being women MPs. ![]() Obesity The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that overweight and obesity may soon replace more traditional public health concerns such as undernutrition and infectious diseases as the most significant cause of poor health. Obesity is a public health and policy problem because of its prevalence, costs, and health effects. Public health efforts seek to understand and correct the environmental factors responsible for the increasing prevalence of obesity in the population. ![]() Suicide Suicide is when a person chooses to kill himself or herself. The word suicide is from the Latin words sui caedere, which means "to kill oneself". In English, when someone kills himself, people say that he has "committed suicide," or "suicided." Doctors consider suicide attempts to be a symptom of a serious depression. Suicide is a crime in some places, and it is considered a sin in many religions. |
